Gulzar

Sampooran Singh Kalra , professionally known as Gulzar and also Gulzar saab, is an Indian lyricist, poet, author, screenwriter, and film director. Gulzar primarily writes in Urdu and Punjabi; besides several dialects of Hindi such as Braj Bhasha, Khariboli, Haryanvi and Marwari.


Ahmad Faraz

Syed Ahmad Shah, better known by his pen name Ahmad Faraz, was a Pakistani Urdu poet, scriptwriter and chairman of Pakistan Academy of Letters. Ahmad Faraz’s poetry was highly popular among the general public in Pakistan, India as well.


Waseem Barelvi

Zahid Hussain, better known by the pen name Wasim Barelvi, is an eminent Indian Urdu language poet. His ghazals, many sung by Jagjit Singh, are very popular. Barelvi is Vice Chairman of the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL). A very famous poet.


Faiz Ahmad Faiz

Faiz Ahmad Faiz MBE, NI, was a Pakistani Muslim Marxist, poet, and author in Urdu. He was one of the most celebrated writers of the Urdu language in Pakistan. Outside literature, he has been described as “a man of wide experience” , a well known person in many fields.


Mirza Ghalib

Ghalib, born Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan, was a prominent Urdu and Persian poet during the last years of the Mughal Empire. He used his pen-names of Ghalib and Asad. Mirza Ghalib’s view of world as he sees world is like a playground where everyone is busy in some mundane activity.


Munawwar Rana

Munawwar Rana was born in Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh in 1952, but spent most of his life in Kolkata. He uses Hindi and Awadhi words and avoids Persian and Arabic. This makes his poetry accessible to Indian audiences and explains his success in poetic meets in non-Urdu areas.


Jaun Eliya

Syed Sibt-e-Asghar Naqvi, commonly known as Jaun Elia, was a Pakistani Urdu poet, philosopher, biographer, and scholar. His poetry is known for its unending pain. He expressed the pain and sorrow in distinct way that anyone could get influenced by his poetry.


Nida Fazli

Muqtida Hasan Nida Fazli, known as Nida Fazli, was a prominent Indian Hindi and Urdu poet, lyricist and dialogue writer. Nida Fazli is a poet of various moods and the creative sentiment and inner urge are the sources of poetry. He published his first collection of Urdu poetry in 1969. 


Rahat Indori

Rahat Indori is an Indian Bollywood lyricist and Urdu language poet. He is also a former professor of Urdu language and a painter. Prior to this he was a pedagogist of Urdu literature at Devi Ahilya University, Indore. Indori has performed in Mushaira and Kavi Sammelan from last 40 – 45 Years.

Sahir Ludhianvi

Abdul Hayee, popularly known by his takhallus (pen name) Sahir Ludhianvi, was an Indian poet and film song lyricist who wrote in the Hindi and Urdu languages. Sahir’s work as a lyricist in the film industry gave him financial stability beyond his earnings as a poet.
